Minn. gay marriage bill survives GOP move to block (PostBulletin)

A proposal to allow gay weddings in Minnesota survived several moves by Senate Republicans Wednesday to block it, an early signal the measure likely has enough votes to pass on the floor.

Both on the Senate floor and in a Rules Committee meeting, Democrats who control the chamber defeated a series of Republican motions to postpone its progress. Republicans said they were simply seeking more information about whether it would cost tax money to allow gay couples to marry — in court costs, state employee benefits and other areas.

AIDS advocates praise Illinois House vote to repeal discriminatory HIV law (Chicago)

The effort to repeal Illinois's outdated HIV principal reporting law took a major step forward this afternoon when the Illinois House of Representatives voted 61-55-1 in support of Representative La Shawn Ford's HB 61, which repeals the principal notification sections of Illinois' Sexually Transmissible Disease Control Act. The bill next moves to the Senate.

One Iowa Celebrates Four Years of Marriage Equality with Anniversary Gala

Honorees include Plaintiffs in birth certificate case, Representative Abdul-Samad, University of Northern Iowa students, and One Iowa Public Education Advisor

On April 3, 2009, the Iowa State Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples. Since then, One Iowa has celebrated that historic decision with our Anniversary Gala. The gala is One Iowa’s signature annual fundraiser and draws supporters from around the state for one purpose: to celebrate equality. One Iowa will present a formal dinner and program with award recipients and speakers.
