Wayne made his DJing debut at London's infamous Red Heart party in April 1996, performing alongside Grace Jones to a dancefloor of 3,000.  His apparent overnight success saw him joining ranks with legendary DJs working London's non-stop nightlife. Warriors at Turnmills (home of Trade) made him a resident. However, it was his residence at London's world’s famous Heaven nightclub that made Wayne a household name.  Averse to categorization in any one particular musical style, Wayne takes crowd on a musical journey starting with house, anthemic vocal house and the sound he created for Heaven's dance floor, bringing the energy, percussive beats and the uplifting infection riffs seamlessly together to create a melodic high energy journey.

Wayne has gone on to play huge parties all over the world including Sydney Mardi Gras and Harbour Party, Berlin Love Parade, World Pride, the Adventjah Festival, Folsom Street Fair, White Party Palm Springs, Winter Party Miami and the prestigious Fire Island Pines Party.  As a producer Wayne has built up an impressive resume with remixes of Cher, Madonna, Kylie Minouge, Christina Aguliera, Celine Dion, Deborah Cox, Whitney Houston and Olive, to name a few.  Over the last few years his travels have taken him from Mexico City to New Mexico, from Sydney to Shanghai and from Johannesburg to Juneau. Wayne is also a resident DJ on the Atlantis gay cruises.

Remixxer - Wayne G
The twelve track continuous mix “Remixxer™ - Wayne G” features some of the biggest names in dance including #1 artists Erasure, Darren Hayes (Savage Garden), Simone Denny, Barry Harris and Peyton.  Not only has Wayne created exclusive mixes to each song on the album, but he has also included some of his own original productions which are making their world premiere, including “Jus Cum”, “I Promised Myself” and his remakes of the classic gems “When Does Cry”, “Love Hangover” and “RESPECT”.  Wayne has also included new songs from dance diva Debby Holiday and Broadway bound Levi Kreis (“Million Dollar Quartet”) as well as his signature remix of the anthemic “I Just Wanna Dance”, from the West End smash hit “Jerry Springer The Opera”.

Here’s To Your Health

Joshua DagonOriginally published in Circuit NoizeMagazine, Winter 2000, Issue Number 26

Waiting for our lunch order to arrive, I sat sipping lemonade, watching my sister dunk slices of white French bread into a tub of oil and pesto, listening to her berate me for my dangerous lifestyle.

“It’s really irresponsible, you know,” she said, pesto dripping onto the tablecloth, “for you to take so many risks with your health. What did the psychiatrist say?”

“He said I have depression,” I answered plainly.

“See!” my sister exclaimed, snapping her fingers at the waiter who’d failed to notice she was out of espresso.

“He said,” I continued, “that it might be because I took drugs.”

“Oh, my god! Then what did he say?”

“He said, ‘Here. I think you should take these drugs.”

Classic New Year’s Cocktails courtesy of Schera’s Restaurant & Bar, Elkader, Iowa

E-mail Print PDF

Classic cocktails served New Years 2010 at Schera's Restaurant and Bar in Elkader, IowaSchera’s Restaurant and Bar in Elkader Iowa (www.scheras.com) is owned by Brian Bruening and Frederique Boudouani. A few years ago, the couple moved to Iowa from the big city life of Boston and opened Schera’s, serving both American fare and foods from Frederique’s native Algeria. Neither Iowa nor Elkader were random choices for the move: Bruening is an Iowa native, and Elakder happens to be named after nineteenth-century Algerian scholar, military leader, and national hero, El Amir Abdelkader, or Emir Abd al-Kadir. Elkader even has an Algerian sister city: Mascara, Algeria.

For New Year’s each year, Schera’s holds a themed celebration. This year the theme looked back fifty years for inspiration, to New Year’s Eve 1959. The restaurant served a superb five-course meal featuring a delectable roast duck and what was described by one guest as “the best filet mignon I’ve ever tasted.” The meal was served attentively by very professional and well-managed staff and was completed with a very clever dessert buffet—a wide selection of treats sized small enough to allow patrons to try multiple items without feeling overindulged.

Included in the evening’s theme was a carefully selected (and, I was told, thoroughly taste-tested) selection of classic cocktails that could have been served on New Year’s Eve, 1959.

Mischievous Mayhem Motivates Malcontent Monks

Joshua DagonDuring lively conversations with both friends and acquaintances—by “lively” I of course mean to say “...on the verge of, but not yet actually employing, automatic weapons”—the topic of religious persecution toward homosexuals has often been discussed ad nauseam. Paula Poundstone Talks About Her Non-traditional Family, Twitter, and… Ping Pong?

E-mail Print PDF

Paula Poundstone Paula Poundstone is performing at the Englert in Iowa City on November 14, 2009.

Your last performance in Iowa was April 3rd, which was a momentous day in Iowa for gays and lesbians—

Yes! Congratulations!

Yeah, “congratulations” was the first thing you said that night in April, and you then responded to someone in the audience who said they were not for [gay marriage] by pointing out it was not “compulsory”, and then you ran with that line of humor for a while. How do you handle it when things are so “off the cuff”?

Lisa Lampanelli, Hoyt Sherman Place, October 24, 2009

E-mail Print PDF

Lisa Lampanelli is “Comedy's Lovable Queen of Mean”, and she’s performing Saturday, October 24 at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, Iowa.

If you like your comedy rough, GO!  And get ready to laugh and laugh hard.  Get ready to think—in shock—“Oh, no, she did NOT just say that!”  Get ready to realize that was just the beginning.

As the reigning diva of celebrity roasts, Lisa Lampanelli is very good at making fun of people and stereotypes—but she’s making fun of you with you.  Plus, she doesn’t leave herself out of the abuse, bringing her own foibles and failings into the act with a frank self abasement that lets you know she’s not putting herself above the crowd… she’s down with it.

On the afternoon of October 15th I had the opportunity to chat briefly with Lisa.  After a short delay (when my usual method of recording a phone call failed miserably) this is what she had to say:

Gary L. Anderson is the country’s renowned and lauded portrayer of legendary attorney Clarence Darrow; with his Darrow performance characterized as in the same league as Holbrook’s Mark Twain in newspapers across the country. He appears as a guest with many legal, judicial organizations and theatres.

This is the return of Clarence Darrow as legal warrior, returning to engage our justice system in a presentation that trembles with inescapable timeliness. Revisit with one of the most mesmerizing icons in American history.

Clarence Darrow was often referred to by the press as the “Attorney for the Damned” and the “Lion of the Courtroom.” The Fundamentalists, however, called him, “The Great Infidel”. He was a study in contrasts - a cool agnostic with blazing azure eyes, a defender of laborers who proclaimed himself lazy, a compassionate humanitarian who once represented thrill killers. Crisp intellect defined his life, yet he was a hedonist who cheated on his wife. He is remembered as the greatest American lawyer, yet was twice indicted on charges of attempting to bribe juries.
