So today the Iowa Supreme Court again unanimously ruled that same-gender couples (and their children!) should be given equal legal protection to their opposite-gender-couple counterparts. Today's ruling was that the names of both spouses of a married same-gender couple should be included on a birth certificate for a child born into their marriage. Meaning, as with opposite-gender couples who require a surrogate egg or sperm donor to have children, the birth certificate is intended to prove and enforce legal parenting responsibility rather than being a record of biological parentage:

Sometimes something we would like to write on ACCESSline is too subjective to be an article, but too short to be an editorial. It took us a while to figure out: that's what a BLOG is for!

Saudi Arabia objects to Internet address endings .gay, .baby—to protect gender equality?
CNN has reported that Saudi Arabia is objecting to various domain extensions, including .baby, .gay, .bar, and numerous others:
The Saudi Arabian government is objecting to a number of proposed new Internet address endings, including .gay, .bar, .baby and .islam.
The country claims the .gay domain would promote homosexuality and would be offensive to "many societies and cultures." Saudi Arabia's Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) filed objections to 31 domain extensions, primarily on cultural and religious grounds.
When Johnson & Johnson applied for the .baby name, it was likely thinking it was a great way to promote its line of well-known baby products. However, in its complaint, the Saudi Arabian government says the name could be used to host pornographic websites, and that "pornography undermines gender equality and threatens public morals." The government uses the same reason in objections to various sex-related top-level domains, including .porn, .sexy, .adult, .hot, .sex, .dating and .virgin.
Maybe I'm confused on what "gender equality" means, but it's pretty nervy of a country that doesn't let women drive to say they're concerned about things that undermine "gender equality". There is plenty of pornography out there where the woman's in charge—probably thanks to the Internet, the great equalizer that it is—so a country claiming that Internet pornography undermines gender equality, while still not allowing its own female citizens to vote or hold public office…?
Does Steve King think it should be legal to discriminate against CHRISTIANS in the workplace?
This morning, Jon Trouten posted an entry on his blog about Rep. Steve King's recent statement that a policy of "don't ask don't tell" should apply for private businesses. If the business doesn't like gay people, they can fire them or not hire them. If those gay people want the job they can just not mention that they're gay. How's anyone going to know?
The FAMiLY Leader, Iowa's top anti-gay org, wants questions for their upcoming presidential forum. Be polite!
The FAMiLY Leader, Iowa's top anti-equality organization, wants to know what questions should be asked of the Republican presidential candidates at their "Thanksgiving Family Forum" on Saturday, November 14, 2011 -- be polite, but I invite every one of you out there to submit a question that YOU would like asked. I doubt any of the pro-equality questions will actually be asked, because The FAMiLY Leader is not likely to provide the pro-equality side any participation in their shin-dig. But still, it can't hurt to try. Like I said, BE POLITE. Every hateful word WE utter gives them ten times the ammunition to claim they're being victimized by the pro-equality side of the issue.
"If you were sitting around the Thanksgiving dinner table with the Republican presidential candidates, what question would you ask? We will be formulating the questions for the upcoming Thanksgiving Family Forum and we'd like your input. Click here to submit your question. Simply fill in your contact info and enter your question in the "message" section."
Sideshow Bob continues the fear mongering
Bob "Sideshow Bob" Vander Plaats has sent out another message from The FAMiLY Leader asking for donations—and yet again including unstated horrible, terrible things that will happen if recipients don't send their money in fast enough.
