It's astounding how far this administration – and this president – have come in making good the promise on same-sex marriage

In his second inaugural address this past January, Barack Obama laid out an expansive vision of gay equality under the law, doing away with his earlier triangulations and declaring that "if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well." For gay Americans, whom the president sometimes disappointed in his first term, it was a stirring moment. But it remained to be seen whether Obama's actions would match his rhetoric.

Gay teen wins right to attend prom with boyfriend (NBC)

An openly gay Missouri teenager has won the right to attend high school prom with his boyfriend after threatening legal action, the district superintendent said Friday.

Stacy Dawson, a 17-year-old senior at Scott County Central High School in Sikeston, Mo., had been told last year that he couldn't bring his boyfriend due to a line in the school's handbook that said "students will be permitted to invite one guest, girls invite boys and boys invite girls."

Iowa Democrats call on Governor to respond to out-of-touch comments by Republican Party Chair

This morning the Iowa Democratic Party called on Governor Terry Branstad to respond to comments by Republican Party of Iowa Chair AJ Spiker on Iowa Press this weekend where he said theirs is the party of One Man, One Woman marriage, and believes Iowans should vote on a discriminatory constitutional amendment banning marrige equality in Iowa.

Gov. Dayton calls for same-sex marriage freedom in Minnesota (DailyPlanet)

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton previously had said he would sign into law a bill making same-sex marriage legal in Minnesota. But on Wednesday night, during his annual “State of the State” address, he went a step further, forcefully arguing that all people should have the right to marry a partner of their choosing, and urging the Minnesota Legislature to enact a same-sex marriage law.
