Illinois State Fair patrons are being asked this week to sign a petition supporting legalization of same-sex marriage in Illinois.
That’s not the usual fare for a place where the weightiest decisions often involve choosing between which fried-food-on-a-stick to eat.
Lambda Legal, a national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, has a booth for the first time at this year’s fair -- at the south end of the Sky Glide, near Sangamon Avenue and Peoria Road. That’s where volunteers are asking visitors to sign the petition.
