(Des Moines, IA) – On Saturday, August 11, the Family Leader is hosting a “Leadership” Summit and has invited three failed presidential candidates to speak and is being led by three-time failed Gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats. The Summit will include hours of discussion on issues including a vote to ban marriage for loving and committed couples and advocating for government involvement in the health decisions women make with their doctors.
The event is hosted by The Family Leader and bankrolled by the National Organization for Marriage, ActRight, and Citizens United.
Statement from One Iowa Executive Director Donna Red Wing:
“Iowa families deserve a true Leadership Summit that speaks for all Iowans.
What Iowa families need are true political leaders who value all families. We need political leaders who understand that the Defense of Marriage Act hurts children of married same-sex couples, and that stigma and bias are incarcerating Iowans simply because they are HIV positive. We need leaders who see that our broken immigration system is ripping apart bi-national same-sex couples and that our federal government still refuses to recognize the brave spouses of soldiers and veterans.
We need leaders who fight injustice and embrace equality. We need leaders who represent true Iowa values.”
