Iowa has many pressing problems that should take priority over worrying about not retaining another Supreme Court justice.
Yet here we go again, with state GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker urging Republicans to oust Justice David Wiggins in November.
Wiggins is the only remaining justice up for retention who ruled that same-sex marriage is legal in the state. Three others were ousted in a drive spearheaded by the Family Leader, a conservative Christian group headed by Bob Vander Plaats of Sioux City.
This time, the GOP didn’t want for Vander Plaats or anyone else to bring up the issue: Spiker fired the first shot, saying “it is again time to put a check on this power and rein in an activist judge from his position of misused authority.”
