The Englert Theatre is excited to host a new exhibition titled 8 ½ x 11, featuring a series of digital prints by Iowa City native Alex Grismore from June 8-July 10th. The exhibit will run from until July 10 in the Douglas & Linda Paul Gallery at The Englert Theatre, with a public reception from 5:30 to 7:30pm, Friday, July 6.
Alex Grismore was born in Iowa City, and has been making art his entire life. After receiving a degree in recording arts from Full Sail University in Florida, Alex enrolled in Madison College in Madison, WI, where he is currently completing a degree in graphic design. Alex is heavily influenced by linear art, and infuses elements of graphic design and animation into his work.
8 ½ x 11 is an exhibit that consists of 8 ½” x 11” framed digital prints that are tiled together to create larger, unified works of art. These independent, abstract pictures are merged together to form large, linear faces that represent a range of different attributes, including intelligence, power, confidence, alertness and energy. The pieces in 8 ½ x 11 were made using only a few select colors and economized line work and are each hung from the wall in a different grid sequence, creating a visually interesting body of work. The Douglas & Linda Paul Gallery is located on the second floor of the historic Englert Theatre. Open from noon to 6pm, Monday through Friday, and during select performances. For more information, call (319) 688-2653 or visit englert.org.
