In it’s third year, with June designated as Pride month around the world, the Four Corners Pride Festival planning committee of 4cGLAD is pleased to announce that the 2012 Four Corners Pride Festival will be held on Saturday, June 23rd, 12 noon - 4pm in Rotary Park, Durango. With attendance continuing to grow, the first year welcoming about 800 attendees and the second year nearly 1,200 attendees, this year’s festival promises to be equally as welcoming, with a new event to include a “float parade” down the Animas River – so get your tubes and rafts ready and decorated for a fun, fun day with family and friends!
Four Corners Pride Festival is an annual celebration focusing on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals and communities. Bringing together LGBTQ people and straight allies for food, music, an information booth, and a children’s area, all of which help to raise awareness and understanding of rural LGBTQ identities and create a stronger sense of community in general in the Four Corners.
“Taking the time to celebrate life with friends and loved ones is a human need, and I am especially happy that the Four Corners LGBTQ Community is continuing the Pride tradition this year. Thank you everyone who contributed to its realization,” said Violette Chair, this year’s Pride Festival Organizing Chair. “Our annual Pride Festival helps to bring awareness to the LGBTQ community, as well as helping to raises awareness about issues of relevance to both the LGBTQ community and the community-at-large,” stated Barbara Blundell, Four Corners Pride Festival Committee Member and 4cGLAD Board Member.
