NOM is back in Iowa and once again, they are bringing their extreme agenda and their money to the state with a purpose: to bully our legislators into passing a marriage ban.
Partnering with anti-gay advocates Bob Vander Plaats and the Family Leader, NOM Executive Director Brian Brown will head to the Capitol this Tuesday with Bob Vander Plaats and a promise to hand in 100,000 signatures in support of a marriage ban. They are planning a rally and are expecting a lot of attention.
We need you now to help make sure the pro-equality voice is heard over their noise. On Tuesday, March 20th, we need to have a real conversation with Iowans about why marriage matters. This isn't about signatures on a petition or politics. It's about people.
In 2010, after NOM flooded the state with out-of-state money to influence the judicial retention vote, Brian Brown said that "his group's focus is now to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot in Iowa to give voters a chance to overturn the court's decision and redefine marriage as being between one man and one woman."
This is the same organization that spent millions to take away marriage equality in California and Maine. NOM has a proven track record and an arsenal of cash. We cannot underestimate NOM's presence in Iowa. We cannot be complacent. We need to be ready to fight back and we cannot win this fight without your help.
Donate now and fight back against NOM, Bob Vander Plaats, and the Family Leader.
NOM and the Family Leader say they have 100,000 signatures to give to our legislators on Tuesday. But NOM does not speak for Iowans. They do not represent Iowa values of fairness and respect and treating each other the way we want to be treated. So, it's time to change the conversation and talk about people, not politics. Together, we can make sure families aren't lost in this sideshow.
The time is now.
Thank you,
Calla Rongerude
Interim Executive Director
