Coe College in Cedar Rapids will be hosting their annual drag show on March 15th at 9 PM in the Cafeteria held in the Gage Memorial Union building. The show will consist of professional drag queens and kings brought in from the community and student performers. This year’s professional line-up will include Brittany Cass, Honey Love, Franky D. Lover, and Tatem Tricks. The student performers will be given advice and prep from Jerri Valentine prior to the show and will compete for titles such as “Miss Congeniality” to “Best Student Performer.” The judges will include Coe Professors, Staff, and community member Reverend Capo of the People’s Church.

This year will also include a GLTBQ-friendly fair for Coe students starting at 7:30 PM in Upper Gage and will feature GLBTQ-friendly community partners and Coe organizations. The main goal of Coe Alliance, the organization behind the drag show and the fair, is for Coe students to have a good time, and for them to be exposed to different cultures. The drag show in recent years has dramatically increased in size with 2011 being a record number of over 350 students in attendance.

The theme this year is Disco and Coe Alliance invites community members to the event. There is no charge but all tips given to student performers are donated to a GLBTQ charity and at-will donations are gladly accepted.
