OUR OPINION: City memberships shouldn't cross the line into political activism (SiouxCityJournal)

We have no issues and the public should have no issues with Councilman Keith Radig or anyone on the council asking questions at budget time about memberships paid by city departments.

Those departments, supported by tax dollars, should not spend money, either directly or indirectly, on activism in support of political candidates or causes. Department managers should be able to explain the value of memberships to council members and provide assurances those memberships do not cross the line into political activism.

This issue arose as a result of a memo written by Radig to his fellow council members and distributed to the council last week as part of a public Finance Department report.
