Bill has 23 state Senate sponsors, just 2 shy of votes needed for passage
A bill that would legalize gay marriage in Washington was introduced Friday in the Legislature with 23 state Senate sponsors, just two votes shy of the 25 needed for passage.
Eight state senators remain uncommitted. The measure is widely expected to have enough support in the state House, and Gov. Christine Gregoire came out in support of gay marriage for the first time last week.
