Gays are second-class citizens in Michigan, says new head of Affirmations in Ferndale (DailyTribune) 
Affirmations -- the largest gay community and resource center in the state -- has a new executive director who is expanding the organization’s hours and mission.
Antonio David Garcia, 37, is a longtime activist in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community and formerly served as the executive director at the Kalamazoo Gay and Lesbian Resource Center.
Named Civil Libertarian of the Year by the American Civil Liberties Union of Flint, Garcia said Michigan has a long way to go when it comes to guaranteeing equal rights for gays.
