Former teammates praise midfielder's decision to come out live on air
When Jeff Clarke read the news, he turned to his wife and told her how proud he was of David Testo.
Then he texted Testo the same message.
On Thursday, Testo, a former Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact midfielder, revealed to CBC's Frenchlanguage station Radio-Canada that he is gay.
Ex-teammates like Clarke, a former Whitecaps captain, had known for a long time.
"I know it took a lot of courage and inner strength," said Clarke, now the technical director for Surrey United. "I'm really happy for him. I'm sure it was liberating.
