“Silver Screen” theme reigns at Nov. 13th AIDS Project of Central Iowa Variety Show and Auction Fundraiser
It’s Hollywood a la Des Moines at the benefit, the annual auction and variety show fundraiser supporting the AIDS Project of Central Iowa which provides HIV care, wellness and prevention services throughout the state. Held on Sunday, Nov. 13 in Des Moines’s newly-renovated Embassy Suites on the River Grand Ballroom, this year’s 25th Anniversary event will begin with a silent and live auction from 5 to 6:30 pm followed by spectacular performances dedicated to movie music and Hollywood idols. There will also be special audio/visual tributes to past AIDS Benefit performers as well friends who have died due to complications of AIDS.
A sampling of the auction items include: An original charcoal portrait of Judy Garland mounted, framed and signed by the artist; four tickets to the Nov. 18 Lily Tomlin concert at Hoyt Sherman Place along with a chance to meet Ms. Tomlin; a hand-made large quilt; original pieces of art created by Ugandans living with HIV in conjunction with the Caring Hands Foundation; spa and entertainment packages; Iowa Cubs Barnstormers tickets; mounted and framed Broadway Show posters signed by cast members; a house ware package with select kitchen and home items.
515 EVENTS owner, Justin Jarrell, will create a lavish Hollywood mood in the ballroom. Planners encourage attendees to dress as a Hollywood icon, movie idol or character in a movie. Prizes will be awarded.
A limited number of reserved VIP tables of ten are available at $1,000, $500 or $350. The price is determined by proximity to the stage. Open seating is $25 per person. To reserve a VIP table, contact Nathan Ritz at
