The much-maligned Affordable Health Care for America Act routinely gets trashed on the Republican presidential debate circuit. Virtually every candidate is ready to repeal “Obamacare,” inferring that the status quo would be better.
Meanwhile, the act has provided $9.6 million to open three new clinics in the Quad-City region. About $3.9 million in federal money went into the new clinic in Rock Island. The rest will establish similar clinics in downtown East Moline and Clinton, Iowa.
These clinics are essential to provide care to the thousands who are expected to become insured by provisions of the Affordable Care Act that are implemented over the next couple of years. Our Quad-Cities simply does not have the health care infrastructure to handle it.
