A situation at Missouri Valley High School involving free-speech and gay rights sparked some healthy and not-so-healthy discussion this week. Administrators describe it as a teachable moment.
Deidre Drees, Missouri Valley schools superintendent, said a small group of students wore T-shirts on Monday that "were basically supporting gay pride."
The next day, two students wore T-shirts in response to the gay pride shirts.
Drees said there were complaints about the shirts worn by the students on Tuesday, and school officials deemed the apparel disruptive to the learning environment.
