Presidential candidate Rick Santorum breezed into three southern Iowa towns on Saturday afternoon, chatting up potential voters and checking another few counties off his to-visit list.
The visits were the first of eight in Santorum’s latest three-day swing through Iowa, the state on whose first-in-the-nation caucuses he’s pinned his hopes for the White House.
An early afternoon visit to Lamoni, the site of Graceland University and situated just a few miles from the Missouri border, featured little campaign rhetoric but plenty of policy talk, with Santorum fielding questions on veterans issues, energy policy and health care while pacing amidst festival tents hawking pumpkins, crafts and antiques.
Later visits to Corydon and Chariton drew small crowds — a dozen or fewer people at each — but offered relaxed environments where Santorum talked on several issues.
