"Don't ask, don't tell" is officially over for soldiers in Iowa and the entire U.S. The law banning gay and lesbian military members from being open about their sexuality was dropped Tuesday.
For one former Eastern Iowa military recruit the "don't ask don't tell" victory is a personal one that finally allows him to serve the country he loves.
University of Iowa grad student John Paul Horn was a high school freshman on 9/11.
He says, “I remember thinking that in two and a half years I can enlist in the military.”
