Fred Karger, a longtime Republican activist from California who is campaigning for president as an openly gay man, praised Iowans for “allowing loving couples to marry” and he urged the GOP to be more accepting of same-sex unions.
In an Iowa State Fair talk that focused heavily on his experience working on political campaigns for President Ronald Reagan and other prominent Republicans, Karger explained how he gradually took up the cause of gay rights.
