
Greetings from Iowa, where we'll be all week in advance of the Iowa Straw Poll on Saturday and the GOP Debate Thursday night in lovely Ames, Iowa. That sound you hear in the background is fried food sizzling and our arteries constricting...mmmmmmm.
Aside from that, we're here to do something we'd never be able to accomplish in California: See presidential candidates up close and personal. Iowa Falls -- population 5,283 -- has been visited by FOUR GOP prez candidates in the past few weeks. AND they ...sit down for this, Californians ...took UNSCRIPTED QUESTIONS from the Iowa Fallsians.
First stop Monday was the luncheon area of the HyVee (think Safeway) here, where former PA Sen. Rick Santorum held court before 38 people. Folks here are so blase about presidential candidates traipsing through the HyVee that stream of people lined up to buy lunch ("Three wings and a side for $4.99!") about five feet away from potentially the next leader of the free world.
