Since 1971, for area residents who needed medical help but could not afford it, there has been one place they've turned for help. This year, that special place, the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic at 2440 Towncrest Drive, will celebrate its 40th year of providing comprehensive health care at no cost.
"We are excited to celebrate this wonderful and exciting milestone," said Sandy Pickup and Barbara Vinograde, co- directors of the Clinic.
For 40 years, the Free Clinic has been helping people with few other options find medical and dental care. The clinic, which strives to help people before their illnesses become emergent, had 6,210 patient visits last year. The clinic staff and volunteers treat adult patients for a range of medical and dental conditions, all of which are united by a common goal to address the needs of the uninsured with dignity and respect.
