
Twenty-one years after leaving the Presbyterian pulpit because he is gay, Scott Anderson, executive director of the Wisconsin Council of Churches, has been cleared to return to ministry, the church's highest court ruled in a decision made public Tuesday.
The Presbyterian Church USA's Permanent Judicial Commission on Monday dismissed an appeal aiming to block Anderson's ordination, saying a 2011 change in church law that opened the door to gay and lesbian clergy rendered the appeal moot.
"It's wonderful news," said Anderson, 56, who expects to be ordained Oct. 8 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Madison.
