The contents of San Diego's gay bookstore, Obelisk, were destroyed by water and smoke July 6 when fire swept through the second and third stories of the building that houses the shop.
Owner Brett Serwalt said anything inside the store that isn't soggy would forever smell like smoke.
Serwalt plans to reopen the store -- at the same location if possible.
The fire was caused by a worker's torch on the roof of an adjacent building, said San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque.
There were 15 apartments above the Obelisk, but no one was injured in the blaze.
