The Rev. Mark Kiyimba, the founding minister of the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Kampala, Uganda, will speak about the struggle for LGBT rights in Uganda at 6:30 p.m. July 18 in the Iowa City Public Library meeting room A. The event is free and open to the public.
Kiyimba has received international attention for his stand against the anti-homosexuality bill that now is before the Ugandan parliament. According to the bill, those perceived as homosexual could be punished by life imprisonment or even death. The Unitarian-Universalist Church of Kampala held conferences in 2009 and 2010 to protest the bill.
A question-and-answer discussion will follow Kiyimba's lecture.
