
From coast to coast, in New York City and San Francisco, the country's largest gay pride parades Sunday added something new to the annual show of racy floats and rainbow-colored fishnet stockings:
Talk of wedding bells.
New York's parade turned into a carnivallike celebration of same-sex marriage as hundreds of thousands of revelers rejoiced at the state's new law giving gay couples the same marital rights as everyone else.
And the euphoria spread to the streets of San Francisco, where about 1 million people reportedly joined the celebration at the city's 41st annual pride parade.
"The decision in New York absolutely propelled people to come out today who ordinarily wouldn't be out here,'' said Gino Santistevan, 35, of Foster City, lauding New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Catholic like himself, for signing the same-sex marriage bill into law.
