Beloved Waterloo priest leaving for Cedar Rapids (WCFCourier)

A Waterloo parish is saying goodbye to an important member of its family.

The Rev. Dennis Juhl, known as "Father Denny" to members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, will move to Cedar Rapids in early July. The Archdiocese of Dubuque reassigned Juhl to St. Ludmila Catholic Church, which in turn will send its pastor, the Rev. Thomas McDermott, to Blessed Sacrament.


"If I wanted to move the place I'm going is wonderful. We are just switching places," Juhl said. He paused, then added, "I keep telling the people of Blessed Sacrament (they) are getting the better deal."

Juhl, 64, a Waverly native, has led Blessed Sacrament for the past 12 years, the maximum time a priest is allowed to stay at one location, according to Juhl. He also served as head of the Waterloo Deanery of priests.
