On his way to the Dubuque airport this afternoon, Texas Republican Ron Paul talked more in-depth with The Des Moines Register about topics he mentioned during a lunch-hour speech at a riverfront winery, as well as other topics:
AIRPORT SECURITY: Paul would like to gradually close down the Transportation Security Administration and give private airlines responsibility for airport security. “The airlines, they would’ve had guns on the airplanes if the government hadn’t prevented them. The people responsible for the property—I mean we worry about the government protecting armored trucks. And nobody robs them.”
INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE: “You should shrink the size of government where you don’t need the funds and then get rid of the IRS and repeal the 16th Amendment. But you have to shrink the size of government … we wouldn’t have any troops overseas, we’d probably spending half as much money as we spend right now on welfare, and then I think you’d be awfully close to getting rid of the income tax.
