
The U.S. Navy will no longer press ahead with the discharge of a naval officer who was found asleep in his bed next to a male colleague, according to a gay and lesbian service members’ group.
The U.S Navy concluded in March that Petty Officer Stephen Jones, 21, should be discharged for “unprofessional conduct” after a roommate found Jones and his friend Bryan McGee had fallen asleep on the former’s bed after watching Vampire Diaries in his room.
But the officer’s lawyers questioned the charge as a muse for those who suspected him of being gay to get around the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on openly gay troops.
