
Public and private trade schools may be illegally denying people with HIV/AIDS from training programs for certain occupations, Justice Department officials said Tuesday, in appealing for states to help enforce federal disability law.
Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez has sent letters to attorneys general of all 50 states as well as U.S. territories, requesting their assistance in addressing the problem.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), people with disabilities, including those with HIV/AIDS, are given federal civil rights protections in public accommodations, employment, and state and local government services.
