Democratic State Sen. Mike Gronstal, a target of conservative groups in Iowa, can count on help from one person on high.
Fellow Democrat Tom Harkin, from the U.S. Senate, said he would do whatever it takes to help the Council Bluffs lawmaker win re-election in 2012, even if that means stumping in western Iowa on Gronstal's behalf.
"He's a great state senator," Harkin said during a conference call with reporters Thursday morning. "I will do everything I can ... to back him up. He's right on this issue."
