Dorothy Vanore stood on the Statehouse steps Monday to speak of her dream: That she'd someday visit her Capitol with her wife and child.
It's a dream that can't come true under current Indiana law and that won't ever be reality if lawmakers succeed in amending the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
Vanore, a 19-year-old Indianapolis woman, was among several hundred people who attended Monday's "rally for equality" on the south side of the Statehouse to oppose the proposed amendment.
Repeatedly, they chanted "Nix Six," a reference to the proposal's legislative title, House Joint Resolution 6. It already has passed the House, 70-26, and is scheduled for a hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee in the Senate chamber.
