Sideshow Bob, again with the religious discrimination

E-mail Print PDF

(PHARiSEE) FAMiLY Leader logo"Sideshow Bob" Vander Plaats has sent out another email from The PHARiSEE FAMiLY Leader, and as blatantly as ever the message is that it is religious discrimination that The PHARiSEE FAMiLY Leader and The Iowa Pharisee Family Policy Center are practicing.

The email is inviting those against civil marriage rights for same-sex couples to come to a "LUV" rally at 11:30am on March 15 on the west steps of the Iowa State Capitol Building (original emphasis shown):

Are you in favor of marriage between one man and one woman?

An unbelievable poll came out recently that said 30% of Iowans "just don't care much one way or the other" when asked whether they favored or opposed the recent Iowa Supreme Court opinion that allowed gay and lesbian couples to marry in Iowa.  Ambivalent...complacent...indecisive are not usually words that characterize Iowans when it comes to the issue of marriage.

It's time to show Iowa we care about preserving marriage between one man and one woman as designed by God!

The email then goes on to ask "supporters" (of taking away civil rights for same-sex couples) to wear red that day, to ask their churches to put a notice in their bulletins, and to donate to the PHARiSEE FAMiLY Leader.

Iowa State Senator Kent "I'm going to the Capitol to burn this place down" Sorenson (they misspelled his name in the email) will be there (showing he represents SOME Iowans but not others).  So will Alabama's ex-Chief-Justice Roy Moore, famous for insisting (and being removed from office for insisting) that a monument to the Ten Commandments be displayed at the Alabama state courthouse—so yet again it's time to bring in the out-of-state influences to show how much "Iowans" believe in something.  Ha.

So anyway, apparently "marriage as designed by God" includes such semi-automatic marriage shooters as Larry King, Rush Limbaugh, and Newt Gingrich, but not Johnny and Lyman, who were together 63 years before being allowed to legally marry in California.

And, of course, "marriage as designed by God" does not allow religious freedom for those who are Christian and BELIEVE that loving relationships between same-sex couples should be blessed and given the same basic legal protections as committed opposite-sex relationships--and don't bring up "marriage=procreation", because we've been there.

Which reminds me again of this lovely prayer posted by "CARIBOU BARBIE" shortly after Iowa's supreme court ruled that my 15-year, responsible, adult, not-already-related-by-blood relationship should be legally treated with at least as much respect as Britney Spears' legally-recognized one-night Las Vegas nuptuals:

Dear Heavenly Father,
We've got a big problem down here, Lord!
Some of Your disobedient children ain't readin' the Bible like they should.
Give us the strength, O Lord, to impose our morals on 'em,
No matter what those activist judges say is legal and proper.
Protect those, O Lord, who are scorin' the way You intended,
And punish anybody else who's strayin' from the playbook.
Please consider, O Merciful God, amendin' Your ten commandments,
I think You left somethin' out there when it comes to marriage,
But hey -- nobody's perfect the first time out, right?
We'll look forward to gettin' a revised copy.
Amen!
