According to a statement by the U.S. Attorney General today, President Obama's administration will no longer defend in court Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as between a man and a woman for federal purposes.

"Although we won't know immediately what this means for our gay and lesbian couples in Iowa," said One Iowa Executive Director Carolyn Jenison.  "We applaud President Obama for taking this important step and appreciate his continued support of LGBT rights."

One Iowa is the state’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization, committed to full equality for LGBT individuals, including the freedom to marry. Find out more at oneiowa.org.
