ACLU museum exhibit criticized (DesMionesRegister)
Several members of the Iowa Legislature are talking about teaching the state historical museum a lesson.
The lawmakers are displeased with the recent exhibit at the State Historical Building on the history of the American Civil Liberties Union and its role in racial justice, women's equality, gay rights and reproductive freedom.
The lawmakers said a display celebrating the Iowa ACLU's 90th anniversary was offensive because it allowed an advocacy group to present its own ideological spin on history.
They have proposed legislation that would force the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, the museum's parent agency, to give equal treatment to opposing viewpoints or lose state money.
