As a long-time Republican, I find myself very upset with the Grand Old Party - especially here in Iowa. The powers of my political party are allowing people like Bob Vander Plaats to soil the front page of the Register on an almost daily basis.
His preoccupation with gay marriage and the ongoing anti-abortion movement at the forefront of the Republican mantra may very well cancel out all the gains made in the recent mid-term elections.
Regardless of how one feels about either of these issues, I think the money and the energy of the Republican Party should be directed at more important challenges.
