Let the Supreme Court do its job and stop trying to intimidate them!

Like so many of you, I was shocked and horrified last fall when three members of the Iowa Supreme Court were rejected by the voters.  I look back now and wonder what I could have done to prevent this travesty from occurring.

However, there is no time for introspection.  Right now, the same activists who launched the effort to reject those Justices are at it again.  They are pushing to uproot our excellent judicial system because they don't think all Iowans deserve the same rights, responsibilities, and protections under the law.  This time, they want to make social extremism the focus of our state legislative session.

I'm asking you to stand up for justice and tell our Iowa House leadership to leave our Supreme Court alone.

Please send a personal email or note right this minute to each of these Republican and Democratic leaders:

Tell them to stop the ridiculous effort to impeach the remaining members of the Iowa Supreme Court.  Disagreeing with the unanimous decision issued by the Court, correctly based on the Iowa Constitution, is not grounds for removal.

We have a judicial system in Iowa that is the envy of the nation and that has, from its very first case, stood up for the human rights of all our citizens.  We must not let fear and hatred corrupt a system that has a record of insisting all of us are equal under the law.

Iowans do not want our judges to bend to the political winds instead of enforcing the law and the Constitution, even when to do so is not popular.  That is the very essence of what courts are supposed to do.

Please, please, please contact these Legislative leaders and demand they keep their hands off the Iowa Supreme Court.  Do it now, because we are at a real risk of letting the politics of the moment overtake our courts.  That would be disastrous for all Iowans, whatever their view of the marriage equality decision.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
Roxanne
