No matter whom you talk to, they say the overwhelming issue for the Iowa Legislature this year will be the budget.
Other issues will almost certainly be discussed in the session that opens Monday. Newly-ascendant GOP legislators, many of them from western Iowa, have promised to introduce measures on gay marriage, abortion and immigration.
But the budget is the biggest challenge facing lawmakers, said Senate Majority leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs.
