Group fears Iowa gay ruling sets precedent (Des Moines Register)

A conservative family-values group that joined the Iowa Supreme Court retention battle this week wants to remove the justices out of fear that their gay marriage ruling could set precedents for other states, the group's leader said Thursday.

Tony Perkins, president of the Washington, D.C.-based Family Research Council, voiced concern that the ruling could be cited in other same-sex marriage court cases.

"This is a bigger issue, not just about Iowa," Perkins said in an interview. "What you see happening here is a precedent being set, and other states will feel comfortable following it."
