Cedar Rapids Gazette endorsement of Branstad urges him to drop his anti-gay stance

The GazetteOn October 17, 2010, the Cedar Rapids Gazette endorsed Republican Terry Branstad for governor of Iowa, but included notable caveats, including his stance attacking civil rights and an independent judiciary:

"Branstad is not a perfect choice, by any means. We urge him to reconsider his desire to take civil rights away from gay and lesbian Iowans, and to take a stand against the political assault on Iowa’s courts."

ACCESSline likewise urges Mr. Branstad to stop politicking on the subject of taking away our civil rights, and to take a position of moral leadership on the current effort to oust Iowa's Supreme Court Justices—which is only happening because of a decision which expanded civil rights for Iowans by adding the LGBT community to those who receive equal protection under Iowa's Constitution.
