Iowa will not join a legal battle over whether President Barack Obama violated the Constitution when he ordered that work permits be given to certain undocumented immigrants, Gov. Terry Branstad said Monday.
"I don't know that I really have standing on that, because this is not really a state issue. This is really a national issue," Branstad said at a news conference in Sioux City.
Obama earlier this month ordered his administration to stop deporting illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. Younger immigrants who don’t have criminal records can now apply for two-year exemptions on deportation.
